Welcome! Thanks for attending this workshop on Technology that fits your church! Part I Let's look at web visibility Google site: Bethany, Lumberton Facebook: Haymount Presbyterian Presbytery page: Central Presbyterian PC(USA) info: Lilington Presbyterian Part II Using Technology to Interact with community/members A. encourage phones in WORSHIP (or at least start and end of worship!) James Dodson asked - in worship, encourage everyone to "tell your friends where you are on Facebook right now" ex) God is Not Dead appeal at end of movie - use Facebook to announce sermon series / texts and ask for questions/comments - read some of questions / comments DURING sermon or event - Use Facebook to update people re: prayer list and how people are doing (get permission) - Use an iPad/tablet for scripture readings on Sunday (Joe Washburn, Chris Denny) B. Using Technology to connect people to ministry Mon-Sat (Andy Byrd asked) - PC(USA) iPhone apps: 1) daily lectionary 2) Gracie's Journey (kid book re: natural disasters) - Presbyterian Outlook article about Children's Bible Apps - non-Presbyterian apps (I haven't screened...so you should!) for iOSand Android - facebook for prayer 1) getting requests out 2) teaching how to pray 3) hosting event - a great way to involve non-Christians & non-members "where they are" - Mango languages through Cumberland County Library system (learn Greek/Hebrew!) - Some are using their website not to just attract people TO church, but to give them a powerful experience in case they live far away or are homebound. - Putting sermons online (Good question, Lisa!): 1) here's info about compression, so you could use Youtube / Vimeo 2) sermoncloud could work if your pastor agrees to their theological statements. 3) bottom line is you'll need SOME service to stream them. Weebly's free max upload file size is 5 Mb, Weebly Pro gets 100Mb files...still not enough for video. 4) Audio sermons don't take up nearly the space, and can be done for free as a file directly or with other free services online (do Google search) C. Using Technology to learn about your community and mission area - MissionInsite example: Graves Memorial, Clinton Part IIITechnological Stuff A. Microphones (Leslie Kerr asked): these receive rave reviews. Sunnyside enjoys this.
